Why You Should Get Involved In College Activities

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Elizabeth Saas Your Education Doesnt Stop At The Classroom Door The primary reason people go to college is to continue their educations, right? But what some students dont realize is that opportunities to learn dont shut off after the class day is through. Whether youre on a sports team, in a dance troupe, part of Amnesty International, or a representative in your student government, any college activity you pursue will offer you a lot to learn. By pursuing college activities outside of your curriculum, you will learn a lot about the activity itself, and more importantly, a lot about yourself. For example, if you love student government, thats a sign that perhaps you should really run for office one day. And if you hate it, thats important information to have before you begin a campaign in the real world and realize its a big mistake. You will also learn how to work and interact with other people outside the classroom setting. This skill is a very important one to have: once you graduate from college, you will need to work with other people to some extent regardless of what you end up doing, and all of that work will take place outside of the classroom. Taking A Break From Studying Makes You More Effective And Efficient In Your Coursework Additionally, getting involved in college activities will make you a better student in your coursework. How, you may wonder, since college activities drain hours away from the time you could be studying, could this possibly be true? Its true in at least two ways. First, if you are committed to a college activity, you will force yourself to be organized about getting your course assignments done. The time management that taking classes and doing college activities requires will force you to focus more intently to get the work done more efficiently so that you can go do your college activity. Secondly, taking a break from studying by doing something else will make you more effective in your course work because when you go to do your activity, you are giving yourself a total break from calculus or Shakespeare, so when you go back, youll be refreshed. Doing a college activity is better for your brain than taking a break by watching TV for example, because though youll be away from your work while youre watching One Life to Live, you will probably not get it out of your mind that you have to get back to Hamlet. Because a college activity will fully engage your brain, you get a better break from Hamlet, and when you sit back down with him, youll read him with fresh and not TV-glazed eyes. The Myths Of Weight Loss

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Simon Edwards II I am sure you have all heard those amazing diet claims taht tell you you can lose all the weight you want by just eating potatoes! Well in this article we will explore some of those myths Myth: Fad diets work for permanent weight loss. Fact: Fad diets are not the best way to lose weight and keep it off. Fad diets often promise quick weight loss or tell you to cut certain foods out of your diet. You may lose weight at first on one of these diets. But diets that strictly limit calories or food choices are hard to follow. Most people quickly get tired of them and regain any lost weight. Fad diets may be unhealthy because they may not provide all of the nutrients your body needs. Also, losing weight at a very rapid rate (more than 3 pounds a week after the first couple weeks) may increase your risk for developing gallstones (clusters of solid material in the gallbladder that can be painful). Diets that provide less than 800 calories per day also could result in heart rhythm abnormalities, which can be fatal. Myth: High-protein/low-carbohydrate diets are a healthy way to lose weight. Fact: The long-term health effects of a high-protein/low-carbohydrate diet are unknown. But getting most of your daily calories from high-protein foods like meat, eggs, and cheese is not a balanced eating plan. You may be eating too much fat and cholesterol, which may raise heart disease risk. You may be eating too few fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which may lead to constipation due to lack of dietary fiber. Following a high-protein/low-carbohydrate diet may also make you feel nauseous, tired, and weak. Eating fewer than 130 grams of carbohydrate a day can lead to the buildup of ketones (partially broken-down fats) in your blood. A buildup of ketones in your blood (called ketosis) can cause your body to produce high levels of uric acid, which is a risk factor for gout (a painful swelling of the joints) and kidney stones. Ketosis may be especially risky for pregnant women and people with diabetes or kidney disease. Myth: Starches are fattening and should be limited when trying to lose weight. Fact: Many foods high in starch, like bread, rice, pasta, cereals, beans, fruits, and some vegetables (like potatoes and yams) are low in fat and calories. They become high in fat and calories when eaten in large portion sizes or when covered with high-fat toppings like butter, sour cream, or mayonnaise. Foods high in starch (also called complex carbohydrates) are an important source of energy for your body. Myth: “I can lose weight while eating whatever I want.” Fact: To lose weight, you need to use more calories than you eat. It is possible to eat any kind of food you want and lose weight. You need to limit the number of calories you eat every day and/or increase your daily physical activity. Portion control is the key. Try eating smaller amounts of food and choosing foods that are low in calories. Myth: Low-fat or nonfat means no calories. Fact: A low-fat or nonfat food is often lower in calories than the same size portion of the full-fat product. But many processed low-fat or nonfat foods have just as many calories as the full-fat version of the same food or even more calories. They may contain added sugar, flour, or starch thickeners to improve flavor and texture after fat is removed. These ingredients add calories. When Should You Use a Cute Pick Up Line?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Scott Patterson Pick up lines are a risky way to start a conversation with women. When you use them, you run the risk of looking like a fool. What I usually recommend to my readers is to look for genuine conversation starters instead of using a lame pick up line. But if you can’t think of anything to say, you can try a cute pick up line. The key is to make sure it comes across as a genuine compliment. If you make her feel special, you’ll at least be able to continue conversation. The rest is up to you. To get started, here are a few different cute pick up lines that you can use. Like I said before, pick up lines aren’t the best way to start a conversation. But at least these won’t make the girl slap you: “I don’t think I have met you before, because I would have certainly remembered a good-looking woman like you” “I can’t believe I have been here the whole night and when I see ‘The One’, I have to say good bye” “Were you always this cute or do you have to work at it?” “You’re so how that you could make Satan sweat.” “I’ve had a lousy day today. It always makes me feel better to see a pretty girl smile. So would you smile for me?” “Are you as beautiful on this inside as you are on the outside?” “Is it hot in here, or is it just you?” “Weren’t you on the cover of Vogue?” “I am not drunk. I am just intoxicated just by being around you.” “Haven’t we met beforeoh yeah, you’re the girl with beautiful smile!” “Right now I feel like Richard Gere, because I am standing next to a Pretty Woman.” “I now that milk ‘does a body good’, but damn girl, how much milk have you been drinking?” “If God made anything better then you, he would have kept it for himself.” “There aren’t enough O’s in the word hot to describe how hot you are.” “Hey, please don’t frown, because you never know when someone might be falling love with your smile.” Trying to use a cute pick up line is not the best way to engage a conversation. While you might get her to start talking, you won’t have taken any steps to creating rapport with her. So instead of using a cute pick up line, try to find something genuine that you like a woman and use that to start talking to her. Are you having trouble meeting and attracting women? Well stop worrying about using a cute pick up line! Instead learn about the RIGHT way to approach women. Just take a look at Scott Patterson’s FREE ebook: Seduction SecretsRevealed! to receive hypnotic secrets to attracting women. Bank Operations Risk - Missing the Point

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Stanley Epstein The Basel II Capital Adequacy requirements have been introduced to encourage banks to improve their management of Credit, Market and Operational Risks. Under the new accord comes a risk based capital requirement specifically for Operational Risk. While capital is important it is only one defense against risk. It is also unlikely that it will be the preferred solution. An increase in capital will not in itself reduce risk, only management action can achieve this. The control of Operational Risk fundamentally lies with good management. This involves a persistent process of vigilance and continued improvement. Operational Risk Management is a value adding activity that impacts, either directly or indirectly on a banks bottom line performance. It therefore should be a key consideration for any bank. However despite this, the advertising material put out by many technology suppliers on the question of Basel II Operational Risk compliance carries a single message that Operational Risk Compliance is all about the bean counting, or to put it into their jargon, DATA MINING. Not a word is said about the real message flowing from Basle II; MANAGE the risk and not, repeat NOT only measure it. Undeniably Basel II is more than an exercise in capital allocation and loss data gathering. Consider the following assortment of claims being made for some of the Basel II software now on offer. It will: (1) Identify the data for Basel II reporting and analysis; (2) Locate that data in operational systems spread out across the whole bank and, in some cases, incorporating it with third-party data; (3) Extract and transform data from operational systems to provide a consistent structure for the data warehouse environment; (4) Clean the data to achieve a consistent and complete view needed for risk calculations, reporting, and analysis; These folk have missed the point completely. There is also an operational risk management process waiting to be implemented and no one is saying anything about it. And dont only take my word for it! The international Rating Agencies have made it abundantly clear where they stand on Operational Risk and how this aspect is going to affect future bank ratings. The following quotations illustrate the point. A quantitative approach to operational risk management is not the ultimate solution. critically important is the implementation of an effective qualitative process of identifying, measuring, managing and controlling operational risk. Since operational risk will affect credit ratings, share prices and organizational reputation, analysts will increasingly include it in their assessment of the management, their strategy and the expected long-term performance of the business. Trying to summarize all the risks into a single number or a range of numbers and then trying to manage this down is the first impulse of many banks and they see technology as being the ideal solution. They are creating a false sense of security by turning a blind eye to the real issue Managing Risk. Mortgage Marketing: Is Your Marketing Full of We-We?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Jeffrey Nelson Does your mortgage marketing to real estate agents truly focus on them, or is it full of we-we? As proud as you may be of your marketing materials, most agents only care how much you can help solve their problems. If you want more agents to send you clients, your focus has to be on them. With the words you use in your marketing messages, whether it be an advertisement, a postcard, a flyer or pages on your website, they determine how much focus is on the agent. Learn how to tell if your marketing talks mostly about agents or if youre talking mostly about yourself. Take the We-We Test First, grab a piece of literature you use in your marketing, like a brochure, flyer or sales letter. Something with a couple paragraphs so you can truly measure the focus of your message. Youll easily assess how much your message is full of we-we by measuring two types of words: Agent-focused words Self-focused words It can be a painful discovery, but possibly the most important one when it comes to attracting more clients. Total Number of Agent-Focused Words Count how many times the words you, your, and yourself appear and also include abbreviations like youve and youre appear in the marketing piece. These words are what you consider being agent-focused. Total Number of Self-Focused Words Ok, here comes the scary part for many of us. Count all the words in the document that are self-focused, which includes I, me, my, mine, myself, our, us and dont forget to add your name and company name, if mentioned. Calculating Your We-We Score Now comes the moment of truth. First, total the sum of customer-focused words and self-focused words. Next, determine the percentage of customer-focused words is represented. Do this by dividing the total number of customer-focused words by the total sum of customer-focused words and self-focused words. So for instance, if your total number of customer-focused words is 12 and the total sum of customer-focused words and self-focused words together equal 40, if you divide 12 by 40, you get a customer-focus rate of 30%. Use a similar calculation for self-focused words. Divide the number of self-focused words by the total sum of customer-focused words and self-focused words. Or in the case of the example, 28 divided by 40. The self-focused rate is 70%. If this was an accurate example of your brochure, it means you speak about yourself nearly 2 times as often as you speak about the agent. Obviously not very good, and if that were truly the case, begin immediately converting your message to be more customer-focused. Which side of the scale is tipped greater, customer-focused or self-focused? If its toward customer-focused congratulations you really do focus on the agent! And on the other hand, if its not, like I said earlier, this could be your most important discovery about your marketing. Convert from being Self-Focused to Agent-Focused If you want to become more agent-focused there are some things you can do to improve your conversion. Start by doing a we-we test all your marketing materials, and be sure to account for the three most common mistakes with brochures. Feature-Focused, Instead of Benefit-DrivenFilled with JargonNo Differentiation from Competitors Secondly, recognize that youre in the service business, not the sales business. Theres a significant difference between the two and changes the style of your marketing altogether. Rather than promote solutions, you focus on their problems. If youre not happy with the outcome of the sample test and youve tested other mortgage broker marketing pieces only to come up with similar results, youre capable of making improvements. Just dont try to do everything at once and get overwhelmed. Take it one step at a time. How To Become A Computer Consultant

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Joshua Feinberg Have you ever wanted to become a computer consultant, but you werent sure if you could cut it? Do you have a basic understanding of computer-systems, strong problem-solving skills, and a desire to help other people? If so, then you already possess the main abilities and traits that you need to become a computer consultant. In this article, well look at the business opportunities for computer consultants, the reasons why there will almost always be a strong need for good computer consultants, and what it takes for you to achieve success if you want to become a computer consultant. Become a Computer Consultant and Your Income Can Soar In a traditional corporate IT job, your earnings potential and career advancement possibilities are ultimately constrained by many things that are simply beyond your control. This often includes lazy or incompetent peers, ineffective management, or a seniority system that rewards obsolete employees and punishes newer, more aggressive go-getters. When you become a computer consultant, these annoyances are largely a moot point. If you dont like your peers, go find better partners and subcontractors to associate with. If one of your bosses (i.e. a major client) is losing respect and running their company into the ground, you can go look for a new client to replace the problem client. And forget about ever being unappreciated. No client is going to pay you or your consulting firm $100 an hour (or more) for your services if they dont value your expertise! And even though your clients generally wont clap for you, your bank account will. So in sharp contrast to a traditional computer-related job, when you become a computer consultant your income potential can soar, because YOU are in control of YOUR future. Business Opportunities for Computer Consultants The market for those that want to become a computer consultant is diverse and still growing. Because virtually every company and organization needs some kind of IT-help, whether it be from internal employees, outsourced computer consultants, or some combination of the two, the choice to become a computer consultant can put you on track for a winning career and a very successful, highly-profitable services business. Now you may be thinking, why would I want to become a computer consultant, when there are already so many people doing it? And thats a perfectly natural question. However, competition is actually a good thing for computer consultants. Because if there were no other computer consultants out there in profitable businesses, youd have to wonder whether the computer consultant industry was viable and profitable. Think about it would you really want to be in an industry where no one else has ever been able to have a profitable, sustainable business? The fact is that many computer consultant businesses are horribly run and have huge customer satisfaction problems. Those problems are your opportunity though. As long as you can provide a cost-effective solution to what small businesses need, your computer consultant business can be very successful. Also remember that as technology changes, even more opportunities are created. Could a computer consultant make a living 10 years ago by blocking SPAM or cleaning up spyware? Of course not. These problems were miniscule compared to todays epidemics. Today these are mainstream problems that plague virtually every small company and scream out for the need for more computer consultants. What other industry do you know that is continually creating more potential clients? Skills You Need to Become a Computer Consultant As you begin to investigate further into how to become a computer consultant, start by listing your own computer-related current skills. Are you the person all your friends and family consult when they have a computer problem? Are you the one everyone turns to in your office for help on computer problems? Most likely, you already have many marketable skills you will need to become a computer consultant. Don’t think you have to be an expert in every portion and every detail of all aspects of using and repairing a computer. That is not true. With the scope and diversification of the industry, it would be impossible to become that knowledgeable. By finding qualified computer consultants to partner with and subcontract work to, your computer consultant business can easily plug most common skills gaps that you may encounter in the field. From Employee to Computer Consultant If you are already working as an employee in one of the many fields of the computer industry, making the transition to become a computer consultant could be one of the best decisions you will make. Aside from increasing your income for the same work you are already doing, there are many other benefits to moonlighting or working full-time for yourself. The cool part about moonlighting however is that you can try out what its like to become a computer consultant, while you still retain the safety net of your day job. In addition, with moonlighting, you can also start building up a steady client list and reference accounts that will give you a huge head start in building out your client list, as you become a computer consultant. Non-Technical Skills for Computer Consultants In order to become a computer consultant, there are also other aspects you should consider other than just your computer knowledge. As with any venture into working for yourself, there are a few traits that make it much easier. For example, are you self-motivated? Can you maintain the drive to work just as though you had an employer looking over your shoulder? Are you ready to wear the many “hats” (i.e. accounting, marketing, sales, operations, etc.) self-employment requires? Marketing, record keeping, planning, and providing the actual billable computer-related services are all parts of the agenda you will be required to either handle yourself, or delegate to another professional. However, don’t let these items overwhelm your desire to become a computer consultant. While these are all important to a computer consultant business, there are ways to make sure they are done without overtaxing yourself. The Bottom Line The decision to become a computer consultant is not one that should be made lightly. However, for hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs around the globe, the decision to become a computer consultant can be a great business opportunity. In this article we looked at business opportunities for computer consultants, the reasons why theyll almost always be a strong need for good computer consultants, and what it takes for you to achieve success if you want to become a computer consultant. The Secret Weight Loss Machine

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Paul Reeve There is a piece of equipment available that has been shown in clinical tests to be unsurpassed for assisting in your weight loss goals - want to know what it is? The Treadmill - exercising on Treadmills has helped many people to achieve their weight loss goals - and it can help you too. Treadmills can be used by virtually any age group, and by individuals of any activity level. Treadmills can help you lose weight, and maintain your weight loss. It really is a numbers game. The more time you spend engaged in physical exercise the more calories you are going to burn and consequently the more pounds you will lose. If you are searching for fitness equipment that will not only burn fat, but will also raise your metabolism to continue burning fat long after youve stopped exercising, then a treadmill should be at the top of your list. The treadmill is matchless for cardiovascular exercise. According to a recent study, calories burned on the treadmill for 60 minutes averaged 865 - 705. Compare this figure to the following: Stair machine 746 - 637 Rowing machine 739 - 606 Stationary cycle 604 - 556 Cross-country ski machine 678 - 595 As you can see the treadmill comes out as the number one cardiovascular machine. If you would like to develop your own weight loss treadmill program here are some ideas: Be creative - make your Treadmill session pleasurable, listen to music or audio books on your MP3 player. Some people prefer to just take the opportunity to think or just day dream. The more you enjoy your Treadmill session, the more likely you are to exercise on your treadmill regularly. Try to exercise daily. Working out on your Treadmill regularly makes your weight loss goals much more likely to happen than if you are only working out only when the mood takes you. Most people that make the switch will tell you that it’s easier to workout every day. You don’t have to think about whether it’s a workout day or not and get prepared for it - just exercise on your treadmill every day - your body will become accustomed to it. It will soon become part of your routine and you will begin to look forward to it. Try to mix in some interval training into your Treadmill sessions each week. Interval training consists of brief periods (about one minute) of more intense exercise incorporated into your Treadmill workouts. You may do a one minute interval of faster walking about every five minutes throughout your workout. Start with a three to five minute warm-up and then five minutes into your walk you do your first interval, one minute of faster walking. At the end of that minute you should be out of breath and ready to slow down. Slow down to your regular walking speed for the next four minutes and then your fifth minute is another one minute interval. Repeat this throughout your workout. By this means you can increase your aerobic fitness level to the limits of your ability. You are in essence crossing the anaerobic threshold into anaerobic metabolism, this forces your body to accept more intense exercise which will in turn make your weight loss gains more achievable. By increasing your basal metabolic rate, interval training cause you to burn more calories a day, and make your exercise less monotonous. Interval training also helps the time pass more quickly. Try walking on your Treadmill with light hand weights of between one and two pounds weight for two to three days per week. Swing your arms and also use a variety of arm movements while walking. This will increase your basal metabolic rate and tone your upper body muscles. Try to do your Treadmill workout first thing in the day. Most people who workout regularly, do so first thing in the morning. If YOU want to exercise regularly, you are more likely to succeed by being an “early bird” In order to add a bit more variety to your routine set one day of the week aside to be your “easy day”. This should be a very leisurely session. Consider how good your walks are starting to feel as you continue to lose weight and tone your body. You have probably heard the expression “if you can’t measure it, then it doesn’t exist”. With this in mind make sure that you record your progress. Record the date and time-of-day of your workout, and the distance and/or time you walked. Record the total of the miles or minutes you’ve walked. Your thoughts or feelings for that particular workout can also be logged. All of the above measures will help to ensure that your Treadmill Exercise Session is that one special time of day to take care of yourself. Don’t let anyone or anything keep you from your special time with your Treadmill. Working out on your Treadmill every day will help you achieve your weight loss goals and have a positive impact on all aspects of your life, including physical, mental, and emotional health. If we only consider the issue of weight loss, the Treadmill is significantly superior to any other exercise machine given its associated energy expenditure. While other fitness equipment “fads” gather dust Treadmills have consistently provided quality results and lasting benefits. Treadmills allow you to work at your own pace, but don’t allow you to slack off. You’ll be able to burn calories efficiently and attain your weight loss targets. Our Nation’s Healthcare Costs are Spiraling Out of Control

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Skip_Freedman] Skip Freedman Almost every day we read in the newspapers how healthcare costs continue to rise at a double digit pace. As employers each year we are chagrined to hear from our health insurance carriers that they’re passing on 12 to 15 to 17 percent increases in health care premiums. We respond by shifting costs over to our employees by increasing the deductibles and co-pays hoping to stem the tide of uncontrollable healthcare costs. Yet, they continue to rise. We want to do something about this. Clearly one of the things that we can be done is to make sure that in the healthcare system today, the resources are allocated only to those people who deserve and qualify for the treatment that they’re seeking on the basis of medical fact. AHIP commonly estimates that 30% of all healthcare treatments are unnecessary. We believe this to be the case because it mirrors our own statistical denials of healthcare benefits on the cases that we review for major health insurance carriers, Third Party Administrators and other clients. The point is allocating health care resources an important part of medical cost containment equation and something that we should all be concerned about? Certainly our company is not at the forefront of this. Our role is to simply provide independent medical review services that help payers allocate their resources more effectively. We believe there are many other ways o to solve this problem, and Independent Review Organizations are adding increasing value by helping to contain medical costs. As a member of the National Association of Independent Review Organizations (NAiro), weve banded together to press for changes in legislative and regulatory areas at the state level and to seek to unify the bureaucratic regulations that are tangling up our healthcare system at the state level and leading to increasing costs. We also are pushing for better ways to improve the overall healthcare system by advocating standards for credentialing Independent Review Organizations. Will Dieters Soon Start Suing Diet Companies And Women’s Magazines

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

By Christine Anne Sutherland By now people have been deluged with articles like Dieting Makes You Fat!, and in fact Im one of the writers of those articles, written mostly by clinicians and researchers like myself, in a desperate effort to let people know that the whole concept of dieting is nothing but a stupid (and highly dangerous) myth. The Evidence The evidence against dieting couldnt possibly be more compelling. Study after study shows that nearly 100% of people who go on a diet put the weight back within 3 years, and often put back more weight because theyve lowered their metabolic rate. Similar studies show that people who lose weight through an exercise program put the weight back on within 12 months! There is no evidence whatsoever that any diet, pill, food replacement, or exercise program has any long term effect on any population! And yet programs like Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig still tout their diet programs. Women’s magazines still publish diet after diet, when permanent weight loss has absolutely nothing to do with dieting! Sure, these days because of advertising regulations, diet companies are forced to say that theyre teaching people life-changing habits, but the facts speak for themselves, with clients returning through the revolving door of these diet factories for yet another dose, at great expense. How Diet Companies and Women’s Magazines Contribute to 6 Billion Pounds of Extra Fat a Year Its estimated that at any time there are approximately 1.5 billion people engaged in dieting. Health studies tell us that rather than keeping weight off, these people will add another 5 pounds of fat, simply because of the diet! In total thats around 6 billion pounds of extra fat accumulating every year! And every new person they sucker into the world of dieting, is one more person wholl be adding to the fat epidemic! Advertising Fraud It is absolutely fraudulent to claim that any other diet program helps people to lose weight, when we know with absolute surety that in nearly 100% of people, that weight will be returning, with interest, in a very short time. Ive had clients who wanted to fight me on this point, saying, for example, that Weight Watchers had worked for them because theyd been on it 7 times! My questions were always Then why are you still so fat? and Why is it that you now find it tougher and tougher to lose weight? and finally Why have your cravings become so much worse? They get the point. And hopefully so will the rest of the world very shortly. With any luck people will start suing diet companies the same way theyre currently suing tobacco companies, especially when they realise that child deaths from eating disorders are strongly correlated to the child having a mother who has dieted! Diets arent just useless, theyre dangerous! Studies Consistently Show that Dieting has Severe Health and Other Impact on Our Lives: ** Diets cause people to gain weight through lowered metabolic rate ** Diets almost always result in reduced nutrition because they restrict food variety ** Dieting impacts on mood because of the interplay of psychological deprivation on hormone production, frequently causing depression or anxiety ** Dieting also lowers or wipes out your libido ** Dieting suppresses your immune system ** Your lowered metabolic rate makes it harder to exercise and in fact you may develop fatigue syndromes ** Too-rapid weight loss causes problems like gall bladder disease, and even sick euthyroid syndrome (one of the most misery-inducing disorders in the world), because the body treats the loss like a physical shock or assault ** Food deprivation causes food cravings, so that every diet you go on adds to the severity of your problem ** A focus on dieting leads people to under-rate the importance of exercise, and studies show that the death rates from inactivity are more than the combined death rates due to smoking and unsafe sex!** Dieting in mothers is absolutely linked to eating disorders in children, and this is fatal for 50% of children who develop anorexia Yes, diets are making people sick and ruining their lives, and dieting is even killing our kids, in their thousands every year (some 1500 child deaths in Australia alone)! Warning: Do NOT buy any Weight Loss Program Unless it Meets the Following 6 Criteria There’s a lot of confusion when it comes to weight loss because almost no programs are based on evidence. I want to give you 6 criteria or elements you absolutely, positively must have in choosing any weight loss program: 1: Should not depend on willpower! Studies consistently show that programs that depend on willpower rapidly fail! It’s not willpower that runs our lives, but our habits! Habits win through everything sooner or later! A scientific program will NEVER ask you to use willpower, because it will offer proven techniques to change habits the easy way, utilising up-to-date conditioning treatments that are easy enough for you to learn and use for yourself! 2: Should NEVER give you a diet plan, unless it’s a medical plan for a specific disease, like diabetes or coeliac disease for instance. Studies consistently show that dieting, even healthy dieting, fails almost 100% of the time. So why are people still trying to go on diets?! A scientifically sound program will never give you a diet. They will be interested only in what you’re eating when you’re NOT on a diet because that’s the real you, and that’s who they’re working with! 3: Should not ask you to embark on harsh exercise regimes or workouts, or start exercise programs that are boring or unenjoyable. Studies consistently show that people who go on exercise regimes to lose weight, gain it back even faster than if they went on a diet! Exercise regimes are a failure! A good program will look at your current everyday activity level and then help you make changes that feel natural and feel great! We strongly encourage people to get back that childlike feeling of “getting out to play” and focus on finding physical activities that are so much fun that you’d almost kill to do them! 4: Should not break the family budget. Most weight loss programs are not only horrendously expensive, but are costs that people pay over and over again every time they sign back up again. If these programs worked, they’d be a good investment, but the problem is, the effects are merely temporary! When you make changes to your actual tastes, habits and preferences, it’s impossible to backslide. Youll never have to re-do the program, and thats an investment instead of money down the drain. 5: Should not give dangerous advice. We have a doctor in our city who starves clients on 1100 calories a day and insists that this can be countered by vitamin injections. We call him “Dr Death” because of the rate of emergency gall bladder surgeries emanating from his clinic. A good program will never give you dangerous advice and every single thing they tell you will be backed by evidence, not some crackpot theory! So if theyre prattling on about low carbs, for instance, run like hell! 6: Should not treat you impersonally, or, even worse than that, meanly! The right program is never impersonal or mean. It should provide a real, living, breathing community of members and staff working together for your benefit. They should genuinely care about and respect you as a human being, and definitely tailor each program personally for you, starting from where youre at right now. Everyone is different when it comes to weight loss, so how could any program possibly try to “do it by numbers”. My Number One Tip for Permanent, Healthy Weight Loss? Stop kidding yourself and stop that diet immediately and promise youll never, ever, diet again. If you only do this, although you may initially gain weight, your metabolic rate will recover and you will lose at least 5 pounds from your normal weight and never regain it. You will over time feel a lot better, with a lot more energy, youll feel good about yourself and you may even feel like learning about more healthy food, or learning about the 14 mistakes people make that lower their metabolism and cause fat gain, or taking up a sport that you can play for the pleasure of it. In other words, youll get a life. Diet companies are just dinosaurs who should have been extinct long ago. Help stamp out dieting and help your fellow man lose 6 billion pounds of fat a year!
